CMAS Scientific Diver Program (29 June 2024)

Scientific Diver Program:

The CMAS Scientific certificate will be granted after completing the Scientific Diving Fundamentals unit, followed by two additional conservation weeks.

Week 1 - Scientific Diving Fundamentals

During this week students go through safety standards for working underwater. Topics include advanced dive planning, dive accident managment, risk assessment and use of specialized dive equipment. This week is heavy in diving theory with emphasis on decompression theory, physics and physiology of diving.

Week 2 - Marine Conservation & Coral Reef Ecology

During this modules each day then includes specific task-orientated diving and lectures in topics from coral health, marine invertebrates and tropical reef fish identification.

Week 3 - Reef Health Monitoring

In this week we go through various marine survey techniques to monitor fish, coral, and invertebrates species on the reef.

Advanced Scientific Diver Program:

The Advanced CMAS Scientific certificate will be granted after completing the “Scientific Diving Fundamentals” unit, followed by all four conservation weeks.

Week 4 - Coral Restoration

This week consists of joining our coral restoration workshop for actively working at the restoration site.

Week 5 - Marine Megafauna

During the megafauna week students will conduct monitoring dives with our research team identifying manta rays, turtles, molas and other megafauna encountered.

Course Price

  • 3-Week Internship = IDR 25.000.000

  • 5-Week Internship = IDR 40.000.000

Prerequisites:

Rescue Diver with 30+ logged dives and current First Aid certificate.

Includes:

Course-specific textbooks, underwater slates & materials. Certifications within each of the weeks. Six days of diving each week.

Students are responsible for their own accommodation & meals during their time on Nusa Lembongan doing training at Blue Corner Dive.

Dive equipment rental is available at Blue Corner Dive, however students enrolling in the CMAS Scientific Diver program are strongly recommended to have their own dive equipment.
