In this week-long program we will learn about several survey techniques used to monitor coral reef health. Survey methods will include using the Coral Watch Coral Health Chart to assess corals for bleaching as well as Reef Check, which involves standard scientific survey techniques to monitor coral, fish and invertebrate species on a reef.
You will also participate in our long-term monitoring program and coral restoration site research. We will conduct fish counts to assess the coral reef community at our coral restoration sites.
PREREQUISITE to joining this week is the Marine Ecology Week or previous knowledge of fish identification for Indo-Pacific area.
The Reef Health Monitoring week is scheduled to start the SECOND Saturday of each month throughout the year.
